Coke Studio is one of those synonyms which strikes the minds of music lovers across the subcontinent when it comes to new era of music. Coke Studio originally originated in Pakistan in the year 2008 under the lights of Rohil Hyatt, founder of Vital Signs in collaboration of The Coca-Cola Company. It is the longest-running annual television music show in Pakistan since 2008.
Coke Studio is an amalgamation of a myriad of musical influences, from traditional classical, folk, Sufi, qawwali, ghazal and bhangra music to contemporary hip hop, rock and pop music. The show has had impact not only on the massive audience of music lover across the globe, but also it has become a platform for several kinds of artists and music, to get showcased.
Looking back to the decade long journey of coke studio, it has witness Rohil Hyatt as the producer for its first 8 seasons, followed by Strings taking up the mantle for next two seasons, and the current season being produced by Ali Hamza and Zohaib Qazi, with coke studio explorer being introduced as new prelude to the season, which aims to bring out the music from the remote areas of Pakistan like Sindh, Balochistan, etc.
Coke Studio has helped virtually unknown or little known musicians come into the national limelight, re-introducing music genres like qawwali and sufi music to the youth of Pakistan, and propagating this rich musical heritage all across the globe. The immense success of coke studio indeed inspired Indian Music wave to begin with Coke Studio India, which ran successfully for 4 seasons, resulting in a revival of Indian Music, an a complete redefinition of music among the Indian youth.
